The utilities sector remains in the capital markets sweet spot. Their status as a stock investment has enabled these companies to ride higher along with the broader stock market over the last few years. Their high dividend characteristics also keep the yield-starved income investors regularly rolling in. And their defensive characteristics have enabled the sector to hold up well during periods of broader stock market stress. So while utilities stocks have certainly become pricey, they still offer appeal in the current market environment.
