The Last Time We Stood On The Brink

It was nearly three years ago this week that it last began. The U.S. stock market was moving in full stride in 2015 as we progressed through another calendar year. But then the market closed on May 21. And over the next nine months, investors increasingly found themselves standing on the brink of the next stock bear market. Despite turning out to be a “false” alarm, it is our most recent and relevant example of what we might reasonably expect if today’s ongoing struggles since the late January highs begin to manifest into something deeper. What can we learn from the last time we stood on the brink.
